Goodreads asked Riss M. Neilson:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Riss M. Neilson It depends on how bad it is. Sometimes, I can listen to music and dance and then sit down and force myself to do a 10-15 minute writing sprint. And other times, I need a real break to get back in the mood. My guilty pleasure for getting out of writers block is starting a brand new project (short story, novel idea, poem), but this is dangerous because sometimes I don’t want to go back to the story that was giving me the writers block. I think one of my favorite tactics, though, is to go back to page 1 of my manuscript and start revising at the sentence level. I know it might sound strange, but once I get back in the world from the very beginning, building up atmosphere etc. it really helps me to think of/want to write new scenes. Hope this helps!
