They did mention in the book that Scotland said he tossed the bones in the river. But I agree, the ending did feel undone. Like how did Finch just enroll in high school and regular life with absolutely no record of a SSN or anything? Other than that, I did LOVE the ending

I didn't particularly care for the wrap up of Scotland turning himself in so that cooper and finch could live on in the woods. I would have preferred that coop would have gone ahead in to the police station, told them what he knew and the truth would finally be out, whatever the consequences would be. I expected that with his revelation and confession about their lives that maybe with Marie and Scotland stepping in to attest of cooper's good character that maybe he wouldn't have done much hard time if any.

Plus, the story doesn't say how long ago Scotland "killed them" but places them in the area, so the FBI's investigation into where they've been the last 8 years would focus in there & probably lead to the cabin at some point.
