Dansco asked Jonathan Maberry:

How did Richard Matheson inspire you in your writing?

Jonathan Maberry I had the great good fortune to meet Matheson, along with Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, and some some others at a series of parties in NYC back in the very early 70s. My middle-school librarian was secretary for a loose club of professional genre fiction writers. Because I had expressed a strong desire to write, she brought me along (with parents' permission). Of all the writers there, Bradbury and Matheson took the most interest in me, and over the next three years mentored me. In fact, I got the very last cover blurbs Bradbury and Matheson ever gave:

“I first met Jonathan when he was a teenager and I predicted great things then. And look, he has achieved great things. Jonathan Maberry is writer whose works will be read for many, many years to come.” –Ray Bradbury

“Maberry has the unique gift of spinning great stories in any genre he chooses. His (Pine Deep) vampire novels are unique and masterful.” –Richard Matheson
