Philip Yancey:
My husband and I have been listening to you this past month reading your memoir, mostly during long trip in our car. we just finished tonight. Lot of thoughts and emotions are going on in our hearts and minds. I relate to your upbringing, as I grew up in a fundamentalist french church. At time it was very painful to listen. I was wondering, how did Marshall or your mom reacted to the publishing of your memoire?

I delayed so long because of that very fear. It's turned out well. Marshall feels validated by having his story told, and has given away copies. My mother can't read--almost 98, she has macular degeneration--but has heard several podcasts. She doesn't give much reaction, but her overall attitude has softened.

How did you decide what made the cut? The first 200 or so pages took place before you hit college, and you only address your post college career in the last 35 or so pages. Was this because your other writing spanned some of your post college years or was the focus on youth deliberate?

? Thank. you so much for this work. I have to tell you: my Grandmother, who died in 1983, loved your work and gave me "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made." My parents, who died in 1994 and 2008 gave me "Disappointment with God" in 1991. Circumstantially I never had the fortitude to read that book. I have now pulled both of these books off the shelf to read....in search of what my Grandmother and parents wanted me to see.
