Natalie Raines No, you are not reading too much into this, TDPOTF is a part of the same Universe as The Cruel Prince, as are the previous series by Holly Black; The Modern Faerie Tales. I think that the time period is as they are written, with TDPOTF being in 2015, and The Cruel Prince is only a few years later in 2019, so when Severin, Ben and his court members visit Elfhame, at that point he is the Alderking and has been for a few (4 ) years. It is also the same Grimsen that comes to Elfhame. I love this and think that it is really cool how Holly Black has integrated all her series together. I hope that this helps you.
