Am I the ONLY ONE who finds the narrator incredibly irritating and pretentious? I'm in the middle of the book and will keep reading but I can't believe no one else says this.

Goodness gracious. This is not a story but an unbearable self-analysis and navel-gazing. Poor Jeffers having to listen to all this.

You’re not the only one. I ploughed on through but I was very happy to finish. There were some beautiful passages about nature, but whenever people were involved the writing became far too convoluted and pretentious for my taste.
