Alexander Casanova asked Richard S. Ford:

Hello Richard! I just saw a recommendation for your book Engines of Empire and was intrigued by the family name "Hawkspur" as well as the cover, blue hawk on a white background, very reminiscent of the Tottenham crest. So I have to ask, are you a Spurs fan and/or were they a inspiration for this in some way? Cheers!

Richard S. Ford Haha! Good question. No, I'm not a Spurs fan. For my sins, I'm a Leeds United supporter, so I'm sure you can imagine how that feels right now.

The name Hawkspur actually comes from a conversation I had with my partner about the pet rabbit she had as a child. It was called 'Larkspur', named after the fairy in Christine Broadman's story 'Larkspur Gets Her Wings'. I changed the 'Lark' to 'Hawk' because I thought it sounded cooler. The blue and white motif is just a coincidence.
