Hey I wanted to know from your point of view on what stands out the most in your six characters? One thing that separates them from each other
Penelope Douglas
Hi Grace!
That's an interesting question, and it took me some time to figure out. I guess what separates all six characters are their background experiences. The ones that shaped who they became. All of them struggle with issues which are very prominent at these ages, and it makes them unique.
Jared: abandonment
Tate: loss
Madoc: lack of purpose in himself
Fallon: lack of trust in others
Jax: mental and physical abuse
K.C.: identity and self-worth
While we can assume who had it worse than another, we can't really ever know the measure of how someone suffers. None of these characters are the same people, so who's to say that Jax suffered more than Jared or K.C. suffered more than Tate? They're each unique in what they went through and how their particular mindsets got them through it. Everyone suffers and struggles at some time or another. They're suffering doesn't make them unique. Their survival does.
Thank you!!

I'm reading you're book Bully but I'm also doing a summative essay on it for school. I was writing and I'm not sure if you told us or not but what high school does Tate go to and also what is her last name? I love the book by the way. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it.

Where did the inspiration for your characters & themes in your books come from? It seems like FA will deal with deeper issues due Jax's childhood abuse & unless I'm wrong (please correct me if I am), K.C. appears to have suffered some form of psychological abuse from her mother? What was it like to write about very difficult/sensative issues knowing it will affect people emotionally?
