Brian Staveley:
What type of Leech is the most powerful? Could you give me a few examples of leeches wells? Can Emotion Leeches use emotions not directed at them to fill their wells? Did you ever expect Emperors blades would be such a hit??
Brian Staveley
Some sample wells might include: sunlight, iron, seawater, terror, granite, black bears, etc.
Much ink has been spilled among those who study leaches about the relative strength of these wells, with no firm conclusion. One thing seems clear, however -- those wells that, in their own right, have great power to affect the world (e.g. sunlight) seem to provide the most power.
And no, I had no idea what to expect when I starting writing the book! The goal was then, as it is now, to write the best story I can. After that, all you can really do as a writer is hope that it finds many happy homes...

I have 2 questions that I hope you can answer: 1) During the course of the series we discover that what distinguishes the Csestriim from their human descendants is the influence of the young gods on the latter. But what metaphysical causes distinguishes the Csestriim from the Nevariim they destroyed? 2) We know that the young gods are the "children" of Ciena and Meshkent, but where do the old gods come from? Thanks!

Hi Brian- first off, thank you. Thank you particularly for the vaniate- it's an unbelievably powerful concept. I tried searching for it and found that you had previously mentioned that you received the inspiration from philosophical work. My question to you is where can I read more about concepts like the vaniate? I have plenty more questions, but Goodreads will break out into hives if I ask away :)
