Mwrogers This is a very well researched novel about communist Romania in the late 1980s. I learned a lot. The citizen spy network and the mistrust that it created even in families was heartbreaking. I hope you do not decide whether to read books solely based on an LGBTQ litmus test.
Judgie No. Do not let the lack of an lgbtq character deter you from reading this powerful story.
John King To each is own of course BUT to not read this based on that ctiteria would be a travesty. I worked with a Romanian that had been in the US for 15 years and he told of the horrible oppression they lived under and the feeling of not trusting ANYONE even your own family and friends. His uncle was whisked away one evening never to be seen again and to this day still has no clue what happened to him; scary stuff for sure.
Anita I want to pretend I didn't read this question - whether there are or not, it does not affect the brilliance of this book
MamaJ B Sometimes, life is more than sexual preferences.... Think outside the cultural box and learn from history!
Jasper Nope but the main character sleeps in a closet so that's relatable, also there are a lot of similarities between being prosecuted for not agreeing with the regime and being prosecuted for being gay so I'm sure you'll find the characters relatable regardless (I know I did)
Shannon Nope! Which made me glad. It was very well historically researched in my opinion. No need to add fake characters. It would be very unlikely to see that in this regime.
rachel ann no, there are no lgbtq characters in this.
