Is it a must to read the first book? Or is this a book that can stand on itself?

Definitely a book you can read by itself.
Prisoners of Geography mainly touches on how a country has come to be (in terms of geopolitics, borders, demographic) based off it's geography (rivers, mountains, deserts etc).
The Power of Geography does touch on some of the above, but there's a large focus on a country's future expansion (or loss, of course), their future aims etc.
They are both 5* so I'd definitely recommend reading Prisoners when you get a chance, the chapters on the US, China and Russia are fascinating.

I don't think it's a must, but I would recommend doing so.
