Is there a pattern to the dialogue that is in italics versus the dialogue that isn't? I'm about two thirds through the book and I can't seem to find out why they were printed like that.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* It’s established in the opening chapter when Mamoru meets Kwang coming up the mountain. Italics are Kaigengua, the imperial standard. Regular text is Shirojima Dialect.
Liz The dialogue in italics is spoken in a foreign language. All of the non-italics dialogue is spoken in the main character's primary language.
