Alafair Burke asked Mary Higgins Clark:

1. You've been writing at least a book a year for forty years (pause to bow down in awe). Though Alvirah Meehan has had repeat performances in your work, you haven't written an identified "series" of novels before. What was it about Laurie Moran, the heroine in I'VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN, that made her right to "spin-off" into a new series?

Mary Higgins Clark I think I was so intrigued by the television setting, by Laurie being a producer, and the characters who were invited in to that setting. I love making them so different, but each with a serious motive to have been the killer.
