Richard asked L.E. Modesitt Jr.:

When did you decide that writing one or two books about characters across the timeline of Recluse rather than sticking to one or two key characters? Do you find it hard to mentally between the characters for the different books?

L.E. Modesitt Jr. I can't honestly say that, in the beginning, it was totally a conscious decision. I'd written THE MAGIC OF RECLUCE and wanted to write another Recluce book, but wasn't ready to finish the story of Lerris. And I had this title in mind, the only time I've ever had a title before I knew what the book was about, and the only place that title would fit was in the "past" of the world of Recluce. So I went ahead and wrote THE TOWERS OF THE SUNSET, which is a very different book [for most readers, it's either their most favorite or one of their least favorite]. And after writing it, I realized I really liked writing the pieces of what might be considered to be parts of the history of a world. As for just two books about a character, or sometimes only one, that also felt right, and still does, for what I'm doing.
