Steve
Steve asked L.E. Modesitt Jr.:

In the books in the Saga of Recluce when the main character drank redberry juice, was redberry juice cranberry juice?

L.E. Modesitt Jr. No. Redberry juice was not cranberry juice. For one thing, it was sweeter... and actually drinkable without "modification."

The "sour" berry juice is greenberry, which might be more of an analog to cranberry juice, except that it's even more tart. And, as a teaser, greenberry juice will play a part in the Recluce book I'm now working on.
