Goodreads asked Lori Lacefield:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Lori Lacefield Hmmm, interesting question! One mystery I'd like to look into comes from my family's past in the Colorado high country near Telluride. In the early 1920's my family was settled in the area around what is now Norwood (population 592). My grandmother used to tell us a story about a tax man who came up there once and never returned home to Denver. One, or possibly more, of my great uncles killed the man and the children used his head as a soccer ball. I've heard there was an inquiry into his death, but it was never solved. Needless to say, my family was still part of the wild west. My grandmother never knew what day or year she was born; they simply carved names on a tree when a child was born. She also never owned a proper pair of shoes until she and her sister were eventually adopted by a judge and his wife in Montrose, Colorado where they were introduced to "proper" society. :)
