Goodreads asked Steven Streeter:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Steven Streeter 1. Read. Read a lot.
2. Write. And then write some more. And keep on writing.
3. Get your language basics down. Spelling, grammar, punctuation, verb tenses, etc. - these are your tools and you need to be able to use them.
4. Do some more writing.
5. Listen to your critics. If 2 or more readers independently say the same thing, then look at it. Don't be afraid to make changes.
6. Write. Write. Write.
7. Avoid "Idol Syndrome". This is when people say because their mum/ friends/ siblings/ grandma say what they do is good, so they think they are the greatest. You know the sort of people who appear in the first weeks of those singing shows and go off crying because "mum said I'm wonderful!" and the rest of the world thinks they sound like a scolded cat. Well, same with writing. Everyone can improve.
8. Did I say write? Because you need to write.
