You have written a number of books - while I know you can't pick favorites, which was the easiest to write? Which book came most naturally, and why do you think that was?

I don't know any of them are particularly easy to write. There are ALWAYS bumps along the way. And I don't know that any of them came that naturally either. I think what happens is that when I start a novel, it always feel natural and easy. But the farther I get into it, the more complicated it gets. Those darn bumps! But those bumps just cause me to dig deeper and try even harder to get to the truth of he characters.

I saw an interview with you on YouTube a few months ago. The interview was during the pandemic, maybe 2020-2022. You had mentioned that you were researching an ancestor of yours who were in the American west. Their story seemed interesting. I think it was a prospective book. Is this possible? If you ever write a book about them, I would love to read it. I have enjoyed reading every book of yours so far.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was my very favorite of your novels. It was also the first one I read. My neighbor, who is Chinese American gave it to me and it opened up wonderful stories of his mother in China who refused to have her feet wrapped. You may history very approachable. Do you do most of your research online or do you travel to China and visit libraries and museums?
