While probably not entirely novel (excuse the pun), a mystery in my own life and actually in my entire family's life would be our origins and where we came from. While we were fairly certain growing up where our ancestors were from (Ireland, France), my sister recently received the results of an ancestry test, and we were somewhat shocked to learn that we had Scottish ancestors and instead of the German origins we thought we always had, we actually possess a small percentage of Eastern European Jewish heritage. While growing up, there had always been rumors that my mother's grandfather (my great-grandfather) had hid this aspect of our origins as the Nazis rose to power in Germany. Sure enough, at least based on the ancestry test, this may have been the case, and it would be interesting to me to learn the backstory behind this and dig into the family archives for greater insight.
