How tough would you say is it to make it as a writer? My parent's don't exactly approve of my career choice..

I won't lie and say it's easy. It can be quite hard as there are so many factors that you can't control. But if it's what you're passionate about there is nothing more rewarding. I will say that it's wise to have a day job for stability while launching your writing career!
