No, thank god!!! That doesn’t mean that some days I don’t feel like writing or that I think what I’m writing sucks and will eventually be cut. Even when it’s going badly, I feel it’s really important to just keep writing that 1,000 words a day.

I'm a great fan of your work, particularly Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I would love to know what is your starting point for a novel? Do you begin with research and then develop the plot, or does the story idea come first? You seem to have the perfect blend of a great story backed up with thorough knowledge, I'm trying to write a historical novel myself and would be grateful for any tips!

Thank you so much for this story, in my opinion, your masterpiece thus far. Your characters through their Chinese story told the mother-daughter story in a new, rich, multi-perspective way. I felt their joy, anger, fear and longing. I was forced to take moments to consider me through my daughters' eyes.?

While reading Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, I finally booked a trip to China in 2017, visiting highlights, a cruise on the Yangtze, and memorable day in fascinating Wuhan. On the river, I struck up a conversation with a lovely young Chinese woman who had also read Tea Girl. Unforgettable. Hope to return someday.?
