Goodreads asked Eva Hnizdo:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Eva Hnizdo When we emigrated from communist Czechoslovakia in 1986, we were sentenced in absence to 5 years in prison for illegal emigration. We got political asylum in the UK in 1987 we were very careful with correspondence. We never put return address on any letters, neither did our friends and family. Yet, despite moving from West Germany to the UK and then moving 4x in the UK, we had a letter from Ministry of Justice from Czechoslovakia in summer 1988 addressed to our newest UK address telling us that there has been an amnesty and we no longer have to go to prison if we return to Czechoslovakia. The communist regime ended in November 1989. But it was scary and puzzling, how could they know our address.
