I am investigating science fiction writers, mainly short stories, and mysteries by black female authors, but I read historical fiction too. "Where The World Ends" by Geraldine McCaughrean is a young-adult novel survival story based on the true story of a hunting party of 9 boys and 3 Scottish men from St. Kilda who were abandoned on a small rocky island when their village was hit by a pandemic. Think "Lord of the Flies" with less violence and poetic writing.
