Douglas Boren I think it would be fine for a 12 year old. There are "moving" parts, but not at all graphic. Go for it.
Brooke romney I would love more info regarding the young adult version. My almost 12 year old wants to read it but I remember being pretty shaken. Do some of the most cruel parts leave out some detail?
Kris Just read the Young Adult version and it is a much better fit for our middle school library. Detailed parts were left out, but enough included to let the reader know how horrible day to day life was in the prison camps.
Valerie You cannot leave these episodes out of the book as it is a major factor in Mr. Zamperini's complete redemption and reality. However, I also believe that this book is not for "young" readers. Young adult - yes, but not younger than early teens. Only my opinion.
