Michael asked Lawrence Watt-Evans:

I only recently discovered the Ethshar novels but I'm devouring them. I especially enjoy how they mix epic world building with the mundane life of normal people. They are very relatable, in a sense. I find it very refreshing - are there any fantasy books you can recommend that have inspired your 'mundane fantasy' novels?

Lawrence Watt-Evans Well, I won't say his work is much like mine, but L. Sprague de Camp was a major inspiration, especially stories like "Three Yards of Dragon" and The Unbeheaded King, and the "Compleat Enchanter" series he wrote with Fletcher Pratt.
