What sort of things are inspirations towards a new book? Are they other books? Movies? What are they?

A lot of times it starts with a news story. Or maybe the corner of a news story that I will add a lot of other material to. And then I do tons and tons of research.
Like in one book I've been working on, the character has found out a big secret. I've looked at different bad guys, like the pharmaceutical industry, or a corrupt official. Those ideas were not working, so now I'm leaning toward a cover up around fracking.

I hear you're going to be author visiting at my school in May!! Honestly, I can't wait. I've read "Girl, Stolen" and now I'm going to read "The Body in the Woods." But I sincerely can't wait for "The Girl I Use To Be" How did you find the ideas to create these well-written stories? I'm inspired :)
