Lauren asked Richard Raley:

I was re-reading this series again for the umpteenth time and something finally clicked. When King Henry is describing the different parts of campus (the hill, the pool, etc.) and he says those that hang out in the hall are called Kids, is that a reference to Kids in the Hall? I suppose that would be an in-joke before King Henry's time. I vaguely remember watching that show.

Richard Raley Yes! It's kind of a Canadian SNL/Monty Python named after the sketch group themselves. My only real memories of specifically watching it is being something weird and strange that was on HBO (when my parents would let me click through HBO or were otherwise occupied). But I thought it was a semi-decent reference and could just imagine some poor Canadian transfer student in the late 80s making the joke and it somehow sticking despite no one knowing what he/she was talking about.
