I was assigned "Fifteen Dogs" as required course reading, and I would have to say no. I had no idea "Fifteen Dogs" was #2 in a series and you cannot tell at all. There is no continuing storyline that you would be missing out on.
That being said, I now want to read "Pastoral" - only because I am enjoying "Fifteen Dogs" so much!
