Jane Harvey-Berrick I'm so sorry that I've only just seen this! I must have missed the notifcation - huge apologies!

One of Seb's good friends was killed in the IED, but that's not the main reason that he didn't see anyone. Once he became an interpreter, he was separated from his Unit. For the last two years, he was kicking his heels in Geneva and France, screwing his way through Europe, being fed up and miserable. He was also in a very isolated job with no other Marines. At the beginning of 'The Education of Caroline' he's working with Brits in a job he finds boring.

Once he's back Stateside, Caro tries to get him to go to a Vets' hospital for help with his PTSD, depression and drinking, but he refuses to have anything to do with former colleagues, because he feels inadequate and 'less'.

If any of his Marine friends contacted him, he refused to see them.

Thank you for asking such an interesting question. I hope this answers it :) jx
