reading the context of that line, Wilde probably meant a workshop class, that created lamps or footstools. A Mr. Cece (who is a random character reference that appears nowhere else in the novel) was probably the teacher back then.

In American public high schools they used to have wood shop or metal shop classes, “Shop” for short, often attended by boys who were unlikely to go to university and might become mechanics or trademen. Girls often took “home economics” or art classes.
