I was quite astonished to read – during the wedding ceremony - the priest asking:”If any of you can show a just cause why they may not lawfully be married , speak now; or else…” As in Austria you will never hear a priest (neither catholic or lutheran) ask that I always thought it was just a book and film thing made for dramatic effect. Do priests really ask this in the USA/ Episcopal church ?
