I took it as I don’t think we are really supposed to know for sure. It’s one of those cases where you kinda hear what you want. Harper wanted to believe she was innocent, or at least make herself believe, so she heard “thank you”. Preston ( or was it Max, I don’t remember) wanted to believe she was guilty so he believed if was F-you. Nobody knows for sure, that’s what makes you go back and forth until the end. But after I’ve finished the book, I’m leaning toward f-you, Ruby was hating everybody when she was on trial.
