The book frequently uses the word "corny" as a negative descriptor for many things I've always known that word to mean "cheesy" or "lame", but in certain passages, Salinger's usage of the word connotates other meanings (E.G. one character calls another character's hairstyle "corny" indicating that the word might mean "outdated"). Does the word "corny" mean what I think it means, or does it have an alternate meaning?
