Jackie Cunningham- Hill She was not raped - I think its important that you read the book to understand how she became pregnant, which is not revealed until close to the end. ( it was not an immaculate conception either! )
Laurean Matron described Sister Mary Joseph Praise as having blood on the front of her habit near her genitals, when she arrived at Missing Hospital. She had traveled from Aden. She'd only met Thomas Stone on the boat to Africa from India, when she almost fell onboard. He had helped her. She left him and went on to Aden where the nun, she was to meet, had died. Instead, she unfortunately encountered the khat dealer and was raped, probably repeatedly . She says it was unspeakable, and she then turned away from God. She then, with nowhere to go, went to Missing Hospital to Matron and Dr. Stone. That was 7 years before she delivered twins. She had fallen in love with Dr. Stone working as his assistant.
June where did Mary meet Thomas stone
Helen There is this: “But in Aden, something happened to her. No one knew what exactly.” Sister Mary Joseph Praise never spoke of what happened there. When asked what happened, “the dread and terror on her face made me loath to ask again.” Based on the description of the khat seller she met, I think she was raped, perhaps repeatedly.
