A Goodreads user asked Ann Livi Andrews:

Author to author - have you ever thought about writing a story for a completely different genre or sub-genre?

Ann Livi Andrews Yes. I love stepping out of my comfort zone and writing different for a different genre. However, time doesn't always permit me to do so. I have the beginnings of a murder mystery, a horror, a straight up real life fiction novel, and a memoir. Someday I would like to try a historical fiction as well as a romance.

I think authors sometimes get stuck in their comfort zone based on what they like to read. If we only did that, we might never find our true talent/calling!

We also do this at the risk of upsetting our fan base. It's kind of like when you're favorite music artist decides to try a different genre of music. It's not what you're used to and you may not like it -- and people might call them a sell out. So it is tricky, but how will we learn and mature as writers if we don't experiment a little?
