I think both stories are true. Philip’s encounter with Bardin happened exactly as described, but what Philip didn’t know was that Bardin was the farang pimp.
Dawson mentioned that Somchit sold Philip to a middleman who then sold him to a farang pimp, who I think is Bardin.
Bardin just twisted the story in such a way that he didn’t give all the damning details.

Philip and Bardin's stories are correct. Bardin is not a pimp. He is an undercover investigator. Dawson's story is based on a confession made by Somchit after a torturous beating by Robert. Somchit was, however, not an innocent victim as he had been planning to kidnap Laura and had just not been able to achieve his goal.

Dawson believed that it was Somchit and continued to believe that. Robert and Dawson never knew the truth.
