The violence and gore in this book are comparable to what you would see in a PG-13 horror movie. On top of that, there are a few sex scenes, but not graphic at all. I'd say it's appropriate for a teen to read, but then, it depends on the teen. The only potentially shocking factor is that the sex happens when the protagonist is in his hybrid man-wolf form (his partner is a regular human woman).
As for Anne Rice's other novels, the vampire chronicles become increasingly less "clean" as the series goes on, with the sex scenes getting more and more graphic (and gratuitous, in my personal opinion) from one book to the next.
