In this new age where everything is instantly criticized on social media, do you (when writing a book) find yourself having to tread carefully and reread everything you've just typed, or are you unbothered by all that, and just write what you want?

Penelope Douglas Hey!

Oh, sure. I'm human. It's impossible not to let the fear of a critical response get to you. I used to obsess a lot, constantly worried and anxious, but I still wrote what I wanted for the most part. I can't spend my time writing books I hate.

Now, I've kind of gotten over it. I still think about it and self-talk a lot, but I've been through the gauntlet a few times now, and I know everything will be fine. As a writer, you just have to learn to put your ego aside. There are worse things going on in the world than someone not liking you or your work. Some people will hate it, others will love it--just do the best you can at what you love and do it with good intentions, and you'll be able to sleep at night lol. No matter how many times I thought the world was ending, I'm still here.
