I'm confused as to what 'Huken' is? Is it a place name that sits below the ridge where the brothers live or does it mean something else. Also I'm assuming that Geitesvingen is a road...

SLADE It seems to be based on a real place in Norway. According to Map Carta's web site, "Huken is a slope in Norway and has an elevation of 60 metres. Huken is situated southeast of Hasås, close to Prestbøen." >> URL Source is https://mapcarta.com/36699612

Essentially the real life one is a 60 yard (meter) drop. Although this site doesn't give the actual pitch or steepness of it.

I know one thing for sure, the county planners there (in the book) really need to be kicked in the head for never putting a barrier up.
Emma The closest I got to my google query for Huken was that the word 'quarry' came up and lots of words like quartz and silica etc.
Sounds a likely place, an abandoned quarry for silicon deposits?
