Goodreads asked E.D. Ward:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

E.D. Ward Sine Deorum, my second book, was heavily influenced by a visit, I was aged 15 years old at the time, from my father one morning around 2.00 am, standing in the shadows of a doorway in what used to be his bedroom. I should hasten to say; he died when I was twelve. Even though the visits lasted a number of weeks, as I grew older, it was inevitable that I would come to doubt what I so readily embraced at the time, if it were not for the memory of my father’s eyes burning through mine. He did not speak, but only stood staring while I, unable to muster more than a glance retreated shivering with fear. Now in my sixties, I like to think I would react differently.
