Jennie I wouldn't. The second book builds on the story in the first book. The same is true of the third.
Nidhi Srivastava Although the mysteries in each book are not carried over, elements from Perveen - the detective's personal life would not make sense without reading the previous 2 books.
Mammagoose11 I would really recommend the first one so you know the schooling, the boyfriend, the "scandal" etc. They are mentioned in later books, but once you understand why she acts the way she does with respect to relationships with men, older women, etc., it helps you to see why she acts - and reacts - the way she does
Kathy Yes, Massey delivers all the background you would need quite well without adding too many pages to the book.
Krishnendu You can but not recommended. You wouldn't know the background of Perveen. Also, recommend you to read "Outnumbered at Oxford", a novella featuring Perveen
