Reactive asked this question about The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club, #1):
Have I got this right? When the Murder Club detect that their friend John has killed someone in an effort to protect his wife, they insist that the police must be informed, and hint to John that really it would be better for everyone if he just took his own life. Meanwhile, at least some of Club know that Bogdan is also a murderer, but are happy to let him go scot free so he can do odd jobs for them? Really?

They wanted to do the right thing by telling the police, but still gave him an evening to sort his things out. Nobody told John to kill himself though. They just knew that he would and it makes sense if you think about. Why should he live on in prison as an old man?
With Bogdan it's different. Joyce and Elizabeth started to having a hunch about Bogdan as they have had with many people before. The only person who knew definitely was Stephen (in case he remembered). They have no proof at all, only a feeling about it. In the last chapter Joyce hints that Elizabeth will have a talk with him soon. Them receiving help from Bogdan until they know for sure is just the tone of the book and characters, theres no evil intent behind it. A little humour in the way the whole book was written. (less)
