It’s a separate series, but it’s in the same universe as six of crows and shadow and bone, and follows characters from those two series, and you would be confused if you didn’t read the other two first, I recommend reading the shadow and bone trilogy, then the six of crows duology, then the king of scars duology, the shadow and bone trilogy is good, and the six of crows duology is the best thing EVER, in short yes read those series first.
