My daughter read it at 6-7 yrs and loved it, but I did read it with her and kept an eye on her reaction. Because, um, the world ends. Many times. Messily. Some children might have difficulties with this, others (like mine) will giggle at the idea of the world ending because someone invented an infinitely powerful hair dryer and turned the knob up really high (her favorite, and a repeat request for bedtime story for about 4 months).(less)
