This plot reminds me of the 2012 movie "The Words" with Bradley Cooper, Olivia Wilde and Jeremy Irons, doesn't it?

I immediately was reminded of "Death Trap", Ira Levin's play and the film version starring Michael Caine. The has-been author stealing the plot of his younger student...

Yes, that is the first thing I thought when I read the preview. This seems to be an old subject among writers..plagiarism.
Don Engebretson
Also a subplot in Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger from 2010.

Also sounds like D.O.A. with Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, Daniel Stern, and others - great cast.

This theme is also prominent in my favorite of John Boyne's books, A Ladder to the Sky.

It also brought to my mind Ian McEwan's short story "My Purple-Scented Novel".

Check out this story in The NY Times that has gotten a lot of comment by other news sources. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/05/ma...
Truth is always stranger than fiction and in this a better real life story than The Plot

It reminded me of an episode of Perry Mason where the professor stole the student's novel idea and published it.
Andrew Tucker
Reminded me of both Mr Cables by Ronald Malfi and Rough Cut by Brian Pinkerton.

Yes, although in the movie, the entire manuscript was plagiarized; in this story, Jake took a plot outline and wrote the words himself. This story also has a plot within a plot (or a plot about a plot), and "The Words" seemed to have a story within a story within a story. Loved the movie, and loved this book!

I believe that involved a purloined manuscript. As in: outright plagiarism.
