Depends on the age of the high school student. It does obviously contain heroin usage, and topics such as sex are reoccurring topics and can be described in graphic detail. The novel also contains a lot of course language. There is also mentions of death.
However, it's an amazing novel and is quite a fun read as it's written in a Scottish accent. However, I would say it is for mature readers and probably shouldn't be read by someone under 15.
