Longer answer: It would make SoC notably more enjoyable to read, if you've at least read Shadow and Bone (the first book). This is because there is very little worldbuilding in SoC itself, it's more or less expected that you already know most of the terms in the Grishaverse.
I read them both at the same time, and found myself struggling especially in the first 100 or so pages.
(Also: Crooked Kingdom has some pretty major spoilers for the last book in Shadow and Bone, though I suppose this doesn't matter if you're not planning on reading SaB in the first place)(less)
