Goodreads asked Greg Buchanan:

How do you get inspired to write?

Greg Buchanan I find it difficult to just turn up at my desk and write a set number of words each day -- I have to care about the material and I have to feel driven to write it. If I'm not naturally feeling inspired (whether from my own life, imagination, or stories told to me by others), then I have a useful shortcut. I watch films (even just scenes) and listen to pieces of music that have strong atmosphere to them. If they can help me feel the emotions I need to feel in the moment, I immediately switch to writing and try and capture my own version of those feelings on the page. P.S: Noise cancelling headphones are helpful for blocking out distractions!
