I don't expect my toaster to last much longer than five years and sometimes not even that long. So Klara couldn't move any more, but her mind was the last to go. The slow fade is just like my toaster where the heating element went dead on one side before it went dead on the other, so the bread was half raw and half burned. Klara can't walk or move around but she can still think. I found it interesting that she recovered from having some of her brain juice taken away. I couldn't decide if she replenished it naturally or if she had more than she needed. (less)
