Am i the only person who fails to understand why this book is considered a classic, to me it was boring and tedious and the plot failed to engross me as many other books have?

Chances are if you do not see why this book is a classic is because you were not ready to read it , or you are in the category of what Holden considered a "phony" (for example never questioning anything, going with the flow , enjoying things because they are "cool" and not because you like it, never asking why, like Holden does numerous times throughout the book) Holden is quite a maverick and you don't have to be exactly like him to understand this book you do have to have an inquisitive nature.
